CELEBRATED GOLF AUTHOR GUEST AT CHARITY TOURNAMENT

More golfers are interested in playing nine-hole courses like our own Winter Park Country Club course, which dates back to 1900 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Some say it’s a trend that’s a result of increased work and family commitments. So for those golfers who love playing nine and supporting the community, put Feb. 10 on your calendar!

The Winter Park Public Library’s (WPPL) Golf Classic Tournament will take place on February 10, 2018 beginning at 11:30am at the 9-hole Winter Park Country Club and golf course.  The tournament’s goal is to raise needed funding to support the Winter Park Public Library’s (WPPL) inclusive, educational programming for patrons of all ages.

As a special treat to participating golfers that day, the author of The Finest Nines, The Best Nine-Hole Golf Courses in North America, Anthony Pioppi, will be a featured guest of the tournament.  Pioppi is a golf writer, historian, and archaeologist. Pioppi has authored three books and is a senior writer for Superintendent Magazine. He contributes to the USGA website and Golf Course Architecture magazine. Pioppi is the executive director of the Seth Raynor Society and a member of the St. Andrews Golf Club, Scotland. He lives in Middletown, Connecticut, and is known to caddy on weekends.  Pioppi’s The Finest Nines features 25 courses and details how to play each one. It makes a great gift for avid golfers who just don’t have the time for 18!
